The Burj Dubai Tower
This thing is unbelievable. Construction began in 2004 by Samsung Engineering and Construction, and it’s set to be completed on January 4th, 2010. In only six years they put this thing up. Here’s some facts about it:
- It’s currently 818 m high (2,684 ft)
- Has 160 floors
- World’s highest and fastest elevators (64 km/h)
- The first “world’s tallest structure” to include residential space
- Looking out from the top, you could see up to 60 miles (97 km) all the way around
- Surrounding the skyscraper is something called the Dubai Fountain. This is a record-setting fountain system. It has 6,600 lights and 50 colored projectors, it is 275 m (900 ft) long and shoots water 150 m (490 ft) into the air, accompanied by a range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world music (which is a nice touch).
- Inside Burj, there are 30,000 homes, 19 residential towers (yes that’s inside it), 7.4 acres of parkland, a 30 acre man-made lake (yes..that’s also inside this), and nine hotels including one 7-star hotel
Check out some other insane photos: “Burj next to two other towers”, “Burj overhead shot 2008″, “Burj and Dubai”. I think this tower is incredible. Let me know what you guys think of is.

The Burj Dubai has it all. Along with the residences Burj Al Arab have to offer, there are fabulous amenities like, a cigar club, restaurants, four luxury swimming pools, an observation platform, 15,000 sq ft of space for just fitness, a library, a residents lounge and corporate suites.
Wow, thanks for sharing this. This is something I’ll have to see someday. I really like the unique design of this tower.
I can’t believe they fit a 30 acre man-made lake in it!
Wow this is incredible!!
@Burj Dubai: That’s insane! Four luxury swimming pools…this tower is completely out of this world.
Wow! This is amazing!! I wonder how much it must have cost Samsung Engineering and Construction to design and build it, let alone the cost of running the tower!! But I guess as long as they have a great number of people interested, it shouldn’t be too bad! This place is huge!! I want to see it in person one day. Thanks for sharing Dan!!
@Danielle: Yeah its cost was roughly $4.1 billion US…I guess they’re banking on a lot of tourists coming there.
